There are a number of questions that we frequently encounter when discussing window film, this article attempts to answer a few of those questions. Why should I apply 3M™ window film to the windows in my home?

3M window film will help you fight:

  • Fading
  • Glare
  • Damage to furniture

More importantly, window film can help everyone in your home feel more comfortable.

Is window film dark? Will window film cause me to use additional lighting, thereby increasing my energy expenses?

In nearly all cases, there is an excessive amount of solar heat gain before 3M window films are installed that blinds or shades need to be closed. The application of energy-saving window film means that shades and blinds can stay open, allowing natural light to enter a building while minimizing the impact of the solar heat gain. Plus, 3M window films come in a number of light transmissions to suit the desires of the homeowner.

Will the interior of my home appear darker after the application of window film?

No. Window film will help you maintain the current colors of your home interior. With draperies, shades and blinds being needed less, you may find that rooms are significantly brighter.

Will the installation of window film impact the performance of my building’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system?

Information provided by the U.S. Department of Energy indicates that solar heat gain through uncovered windows is responsible for up to one-third of cooling costs for a building. 3M window film that can help reduce that heat gain by three-quarters or more can reduce the run time of AC systems. This can result in lowering cooling costs by as much as 30%, increasing the life of equipment, reducing the cost of maintenance and it can allow for the replacement of older, larger cooling systems with smaller, less expensive HVAC systems.
