School safety has been dominating the news cycle. Every parent wants to feel that their child is protected at school at any cost which is why security window film should be part of the solution to keeping kids safe. An article in Business Insider titled: “Here are the best ways to protect schools, workplaces, and ourselves from active shooters” discusses a variety of ways to increase school safety, one of the methods being security window film. On the use of technology to improve safety, the article recommends:

“Protective and intrusion resistant doors and windows creating delays in an aggressor’s ability to gain entry. For pre-existing locations the addition of protective window film, improved locking mechanisms and/or frames as well as other reinforcement techniques can be effective.”

There are specific features of protective window film that increases school safety. Typically, this adhesive product is a clear layer of polyester film that is applied on the interior surface of the glass to a building’s existing windows. The security film is customizable in a variety of different thicknesses and has several installation options depending on the level of security or safety required. After installation, the film acts like a shield holding glass fragments of the window together in the event of a break-in.

When it comes to school safety and security, the durability of this film will hold glass fragments together in the event of a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or break-in which can greatly reduce the risk of injury and property damage.

As the article points out, another benefit of the security window film is the ability to “buy extra time” in the event of an intruder or a break-in. These extra minutes could be crucial in deterring criminals from gaining access to the building and giving authorities adequate time to respond to the situation.

Furthermore, over the years criminals have gotten smarter and found ways to work around fortified doors and gates. The next logical and most vulnerable point of entry in a building are windows. When windows are protected with safety and security film, parents can rest easy that their children are protected at school.
