The Knoxville Convention Center contacted Energy Control Consultants to help them resolve an issue. The facility had a tremendous amount of heat coming through the glass. This would cause the HVAC system to work overtime to keep up with the demand and keep the space comfortable. The heat also was accompanied by a great deal of visible light and UV which are the major contributors of fading. The owners wanted to address the heat issue as well as protect the hanging artwork from fade damage.
The owners decided to implement a window film from 3M Company called Night Vision 15. This film would dramatically help with reducing the heat, glare and causes of fading while still allowing good visibility through the glass. Our team installed a total of 9000 square feet of Night Vision 15 on the Convention Center and the results were dramatic. Not only was the issue resolved, the use of the window film along with other improvements helped the facility to become the first convention center in Tennessee to be LEED Silver certified for existing buildings.
