3M is an established brand that has reached every home. At some point in time, you have likely used or owned a 3M product in your home. In fact, one of their mottos is simply “you’re never more than 10 feet away from 3M science”. Their influence is why we have worked hard to partner with them in the window treatment industry.
But why specifically 3M? Simply put, 3M were the pioneers of the window film industry. Their 1966 patent for sun control window films was the first ever window film. Until then, the only product like it was a metallic spray that would add to the energy efficiency of the windows.
These coatings were not easy or accessible, as they had a tendency to streak instead of applying evenly and smooth. 3M decided to take the technology of the metallic spray and combined it with clear polyester film to create the first sun control window films.
In response to the terrorist bombings in Europe in the late 1960s, 3M released a clear security window film that would hold the broken glass together and prevent flying shards during a bomb blast. Then in the 1970s, an energy crisis arose that pushed 3M forward in their innovative window film technology.
